UPDATED: Boil advisory for Kelleys Island lifted

UPDATE SUNDAY, JUNE 11: The boil advisory for Kelleys Island has been lifted. The Village says water samples were tested and came back negative.

ORIGINAL POST: KELLEYS ISLAND – Due to a water main break, Kelleys Island is now under a boil advisory.

The Erie County EMA is recommends effected individuals do the following:

  • Throw away beverages and ice cubes if made with tap water;
  • Keep boiled water in the refrigerator for drinking;
  • Do not swallow water while you are showering or bathing;
  • Provide pets with boiled water after cooling it;
  • Do not use home filtering devices in place of boiling; most home water filters will not provide adequate protection from microorganisms;
  • Use only boiled water to treat minor injuries.

Residents are also asked to limit water usage until further notice.

Fire Chief Bobby Skeans has ordered no fires or open burning of any kind on the island.
