Lou Ann Gioffre

Lou Ann (Smith) Gioffre, 82, of Berlin Heights, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Parkvue Health Care Center after a brief illness.

She was born on March 22, 1940 in Norwalk, Ohio to Leonard and Lutilla (Green) Smith.

Lou Ann graduated from Berlin Heights, class of 1958 and went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree from Defiance College in 1962. She was employed as a Librarian at Berlin-Milan Public Schools for 27 years. Lou Ann was a faithful member of The First Congregational UCC, where she served on many committees, sang in the choir, as well as organizing the Acolyte program. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading a good book, the beauty of creation and being outdoors, connecting kids with the right books, and being an encouragement to others.

She is survived by her sister, Gail Eakin of Parker, PA; nephew, Gregory, of Spring Hill, KS, and his 3 children; niece, Tiffany, of Lafayette, IN, and her 3 daughters; nephew, Leonard Eakin, of Custer, SD, and his 2 daughters; and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Smith.

A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at 11 A.M. at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 5 E. Main St., Berlin Heights, with Chaplain Mel Sayler presiding. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery simultaneously with her husband, Frank Gioffre, who passed in 2020.
