80-year-old killed while walking across State Route 61
BERLIN HEIGHTS – An 80-year-old man was killed Sunday night after being struck by a car while walking across State Route 61.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when Kayla Klenk, 23, of Huron, was driving a black 2021 Toyota Corolla northbound on State Route 61, south of Driver Road, while William Hildenbrand was walking across the road.
Hildenbrand was struck and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash.
Klenk did not sustain any injuries and was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash, the Highway Patrol says.
Alcohol or drug use are not considered a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation. Both lanes of SR 61 were closed for approximately two hours while the scene was investigated.
