Man charged with fifth OVI

SANDUSKY – A 48-year-old man with four prior OVI convictions was charged with a felony OVI charge on Friday night.

According to a report from the Sandusky Police Department, Jeffery Lindsey was pulled over at the intersection of Karl-Ann Drive and W. Perkins Avenue after he was observed pulling past a marked line and turning into the furthest possible lane.

After the officer pulled Lindsey, according to the report, he could not state why traffic violations occurred and then lit a cigarette. The police report says that individuals often “light a cigarette upon contact with police are either nervous or trying to hide an odor in the vehicle.” The report states the smell of intoxicants was coming from Lindsey and the vehicle, and he showed signs of intoxication.

According to the report, Lindsey was ordered to leave the vehicle, which he did and then admitted to having a “few” drinks. Lindsey agreed to take one field sobriety test, which he failed, the report states.

Lindsey was then placed under arrest.

Inside the vehicle, a plastic bag with suspected marijuana inside was found, the report states.

Lindsey was charged with OVI, and the charge was enhanced to a fourth-degree felony due to him having three prior convictions in the past ten years. His convictions are from 1994, 2016, 2018, and 2023. Additionally, he was charged with driving under OVI suspension, a first-degree felony, and improper turn, a minor misdemeanor.
