Huron City Council to vote on purchasing mobile home park

HURON – Huron City Council will vote on purchasing the Oster’s Mobile Home Park for $900,000 at their Tuesday, March 28 meeting.

According to the purchase agreement, the City will use funds from the Sawmill Creek Resort TIF to purchase the property. The TIF, or tax increment financing, was created soon after Cedar Fair began renovating the property in 2021. The approval of the TIF allowed Sawmill to be annexed into the city of Huron and the City government to retain 100% of all income tax generated on the site.

The agreement regarding the sale also requires the current owner to have all of the current residents removed from the mobile home park before the property can be transferred to the City.

In the recommendation to council, City Manager Matt Lasko said the purchase of the mobile home park is part of the City’s efforts to explore “ways to enhance the entrance to Huron.”

“The Oster’s Mobile Home Park has created challenges for the City in terms of ongoing code and zoning infractionsons, utility disconnections and regular safety force intervention,” Lasko stated. “To address this matter, the City has entered into a purchase agreement for the purchase of all seven parcels comprising the mobile home park property.”

Council is scheduled to vote on the sale following an executive session. The meeting starts at 6:30PM and will be held at council chambers inside the City of Huron building. Audience comments are scheduled to take place before the vote.
