Huron High School students wear pink and purple to show support to Evelyn Bauer’s family

HURON – Students and staff members at Huron High School wore pink and purple Thursday to show their support to the family of Evelyn Bauer.

Evelyn passed away unexpectedly on Sunday. She was six-years-old and a kindergartner at Shawnee Elementary.

The idea to wear pink and purple came from Sophomore Carter Schlessman.

Schlessman told Huron Insider, “I came up with the idea when I was trying to figure out what I could do to help.” He said that after coming up with the idea on Wednesday night, he made a post on his Snapchat story asking people to consider wearing purple or pink and to reshare his post. Within just a few hours, Schlessman’s message had spread throughout most of the student body and to staff members.

“I was honestly super surprised that so many kids showed up to school with purple or pink on,” Schlessman said. “I expected about a quarter of the amount of people that did to actually do it. They exceeded my expectations by a ton and it’s truly beautiful. It makes me happy to see that I am not the only one motivated to support the Bauer family.”

Sandusky High School has now followed. The school, which normally requires students to wear a uniform, will be allowing students to wear pink or purple on Friday to show their support to the Bauer family.
