OVI checkpoint held in memory of Alli Jo Kurdinat

NORWALK – The Huron County Sheriff’s Office, Norwalk Police Department and Ohio State Highway Patrol held an OVI checkpoint will be held from 7PM to 9PM Friday night in honor of Alli Jo Kurdinat.

Kurdinat was killed on May 21, 2021, when, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Nicholas Barylski, 49, of Huron crashed his pickup truck head-on into a vehicle she was in. Barylski, who also died as a result of the crash, was believed to be intoxicated at the time of the crash. Kurdinat a sophomore at Norwalk High School and attended EHOVE Career Center. She was 15-years-old.

Officers made contact with 814 drivers during the checkpoint and none were found to be impaired.

Also during and following the checkpoint, saturation patrols were conducted in an effort to aggressively combat OVI-related injury and fatal crashes. During the saturation patrols, one driver was found to be impaired and arrested.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reminds the public to call #677 if you suspect an impaired driver.
