Marilyn Beckman

Marilyn was born on January 30, 1940 in Fremont, OH to the late Glenn and Coletta (Snyder) Lehman. She was a Fremont St. Joseph High School graduate and later went on to receive a nursing degree from St. John’s Hospital in Cleveland, OH.

During her nursing career, Marilyn spent four years working at Fremont Hospital and 15 years working as a school nurse through the Erie County Health Department. After her retirement, she spent many years as a volunteer at Firelands Regional Medical Center primarily in the digestive health and cardiac rehab departments. It was during her time volunteering that she started and organized a program called Hats of Love that was sponsored by FRMC. Hats of Love has since expanded to include a variety of hand sewn, crocheted and knitted items for patients to enjoy during their time spent healing.

In addition to volunteering at the hospital, Marilyn was an active member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Huron, OH. In helping with the Baptismal Quilts Program at St. Peter’s, Marilyn was able to use her sewing expertise to welcome children into a life of faith in the church.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Marcia (John) Collart of Sandusky; sons, David (Nicholas Wise) Beckman of Jersey City, NJ and John Beckman of Wilmington, DE; two sisters, Kathryn Pollock of Minnesota and Carolyn Bullock of San Diego, CA; as well as grandchildren, Jennifer and Brian.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Beckman, in 2011.
