Arthur Gagnon

Arthur “Sonny” E. Gagnon, 81, residing in Sandusky, passed away early Tuesday morning, June 28, 2022 under the care of his family and Stein Hospice.

Sonny was born to the late Arthur J. and Olive M. (Williams) Gagnon on September 13, 1940 in Iron Mountain, MI, in the upper peninsula, “Once a Yooper always a Yooper.”

Sonny retired from the Ford Motor Company in 1993 after 31 years of service. He served in the Ohio National Guard from 1963 to 1969. Arthur was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed watching football and boxing, boating, fishing, cooking and eating the fish he caught. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family and pets.

Sonny is survived by his wife, Rose Marie (Davis) Gagnon, whom he married on September 7, 1963. He is also survived by his daughters, Amy M. (Joseph) Cabot and Renee M. (Jeffery) Gagnon-Didion both of Sandusky; nephews, John (Becky) Bednarz and Scott (Cheryl) Bednarz and niece, Anne (Rich) Ziehm.

In addition to his parents, Sonny is preceded in death by sisters, Shirley Lager and Sharon Bednarz; nephews, Brett “Maverick” Bednarz, Ted Lager and Kris Lager and niece, Cindy Lager.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, 2020 Sanford St., Sandusky. Deacon Phil Dinovo will officiate. Everyone is invited to a celebration of life following the committal service at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
