Local highway construction for the week of May 23

Here is a look at construction projects that are anticipated by the Ohio Department of Transportation to impact highways in Erie, Huron, Lorain, Ottawa, Sandusky, and Seneca counties on the week of May 23.

Erie County

State Route 2, from just west of SR 61 to just east of Joppa Road, will have daily single lane closures for a pavement repair project. A minimum of one 12’ lane will be maintained in each direction. Estimated completion: July 2022

SR 2, from Berlin Road to SR 4, will have shoulder closures for bridge painting and repairs. Crews are working at various structures throughout the project limits to complete concrete patching and repair work. There is no impact to traffic and two lanes will be maintained, in each direction, on SR 2. Estimated completion: October 2022

U.S. 6, from the western Vermilion Corporation limits to the Lorain County line, and State Route 60, from the southern Vermilion Corporation limits to U.S. 6, will have single lane closures for a resurfacing project and bridge work at the structure over the Vermilion River. Estimated completion: May 2022

Huron County

U.S. 20 along the Norwalk Bypass, from SR 99 to Cleveland Road, will have single lane closures as needed for bridge painting at structures along the bypass. Estimated completion: October 2022

SR 61 under the U.S. 20 overpass, between SR 162 and U.S. 20 in Norwalk, will close Monday, May 23 for bridge painting. The detour route for northbound motorists will be SR 61 to SR 162, west on SR 162 to SR 99, north on 99 to U.S. 20, east on U.S. 20 to SR 61, and reverse for southbound motorists. Estimated completion: Monday, June 13, 2022

Lorain County

State Route 2, at the eastbound and westbound rest areas near the Lorain/Erie County line, will have shoulder closures for a highway lighting project. Crews will be installing cable and lighting foundations for new highway lighting. All work is taking place from the shoulders of the exit/entrance ramps, or outside the parking lot pavement areas. Construction vehicles will be moving around the rest areas and motorists should use caution as they enter and exit the rest areas. Estimated completion: June 2022

State Route 2, from just east of Baumhart Road to just east of SR 58, will have daily and nightly single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained in 11’ lanes at all times. Estimated completion: May 2022

SR 10, between U.S. 20 and I-480, will have eastbound and westbound lane closures for a resurfacing project. At least one lane in each direction will be maintained. Estimated completion: October 2022

U.S. 20, from SR 10 to Chestnut Ridge Road, will have eastbound and westbound single lane closures for a resurfacing project. At least one lane in each direction will be maintained and there are no lane width restrictions. Estimated completion: October 2022

State Route 57, between Glendalough Avenue and SR 82, will have single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. An 11’ lane width will be maintained. Estimated completion: July 2022

State Route 57 northbound and southbound, between SR 82 and SR 10/U.S. 20, will be reduced to one lane of traffic for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained in the adjacent lane. An 11’ lane width will be maintained. Estimated completion: July 2022

County Road 78 (Moore Road) in the city of Avon Lake, from just south of Walker Road to the city of Avon Lake’s southern corporation limits, will have one lane of traffic for a minor resurfacing project. Southbound traffic only will be open. Northbound traffic will be detoured from Moore Road to Pin Oak Parkway east to SR 83 north to Walker Road.

I-90 eastbound and westbound at the structures over the railroad tracks, between French Creek Road and SR 611 (Colorado Avenue), will have lane closures for a bridge reconstruction project. Traffic will be maintained with barrels and portable concrete barriers. Traffic will be maintained in 11’ lanes eastbound and westbound. Speed limits will be established at 55 mph for areas with barrier wall and 50 mph for areas with barrels when workers are present. Estimated completion: May 2023

State Route 303, from Gifford Road to the village of Lagrange corporation limits, will have single lane closures for pavement repairs. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers. Estimated completion: July 2022

Ottawa County

The following ramps will be closed for pavement repairs beginning Monday, May 16 through Saturday, May 21:

  • Eastbound SR 2 to southbound SR 53 ramp
    • Detour: Eastbound SR 2 to northbound SR 53 to westbound SR 163 to westbound SR 2
  • Northbound SR 53 to eastbound SR 2 ramp
    • Detour: Westbound SR 2 to SR 163 to eastbound SR 2

State Route 2, at State Route 358 near Camp Perry, Port Clinton, will experience lane restrictions for railroad repairs on Thursday, May 26, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. A short-term full closure is necessary. Work performed by railroad.

State Route 2 to, between E. State St. and Lake Erie Coastal Trail, Port Clinton, will experience lane restrictions for pavement repairs through mid-May. All ramps will remain open.

State Route 2, over Cedar Creek between Teachout Rd. and Donovan Rd., Jerusalem Twp., is closed for bridge replacement through mid-May. Detour: I-280 or SR 2 to SR 51 to SR 579 to SR 2.

State Route 269, between SR 163 and SR 2, Port Clinton/Marblehead, will experience lane restrictions for resurfacing through mid-May.

Sandusky County

U.S. Route 6, between CR 128 and Brush St., will experience lane restrictions for US 6/US 20/State St. interchange reconfiguration.

Eastbound US 20 ramp to westbound/southbound US 6 will be closed for reconstruction beginning Monday, June 6 through mid-August. Detour: Eastbound CR 20 along W. State St to Oak Harbor Rd. Left on Oak Harbor Rd. to interchange with US 20/US 6. Left on US 20 WB/ US 6 WB/SB.

Westbound/southbound US 6, from US 20 to Muskellunge Creek Rd., will be closed beginning Monday, June 6 through Thursday, June 9. Detour: Continue EB on US 20 to SR 590. Left on SR 590 to US 6.

State Route 19, between TR 127 and TR 83, Fremont, will be closed for two culvert replacements beginning Monday, June 6 through early August. Detour: US 20 to SR 590 to SR 105.

State Route 53, between Schwartz Rd. and the Ohio Turnpike, Fremont, may experience lane restrictions for Turnpike work. Additional restrictions may be announced.

State Route 101, between CR 177 and TR 183, Clyde, will be closed for a culvert repair beginning Monday, May 23 through Friday, May 27. Detour: SR 101 to SR 19 to US 20 to SR 101.

Seneca County

State Route 228, between SR 19/CR 32 and SR 101, Tiffin, will be closed for pavement repairs beginning Tuesday, May 24 through Friday, May 27, daily 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Detour: SR 19 to SR 101.
