Two Sandusky convenience store fail underage compliance checks

SANDUSKY – Two convenience store clerks were charged as a result of a series of underage alcohol and tobacco compliance checks by the Sandusky Police Department on Monday.

According to a police report, in the checks, an 18-year-old would attempt to purchase alcohol and tobacco products, which legally require an individual to be at least 21-years-old to purchase.

Compliance checks were completed on 20 stores located in the city of Sandusky.

The gas stations that failed the checks were the BP on Venice Road and the Circle K on West Washington Street.

According to the report, at the BP, a clerk sold an 18-year-old two Dutch Berry Fusion Cigarillos and on Mango White Claw. At the Circle K, a clerk sold an 18-year-old two Swisher Sweets Grape Cigarillos and one Raspberry Twisted, the report states.

The clerks from both stores were charged with Sale of Alcohol to Underage Person (M1) and Illegal sale of Tobacco Products to Underage Person (M4).

The following are the other 18 locations that passed: Sandusky Food and Wine, Mobile on Venice Road, BP on Hayes Avenue, Dick’s Carry-Out, Cliff’s Carry Out, 7-Eleven, BP on West Washington Street, Variety Village, CVS on E. Monroe Street, Rite Aid on Cleveland Road, Sandusky Food Mart, Speedway on West Perkins Avenue, Friendship on Cleveland Road, Shell on Cleveland Road, Cheap Tobacco on West Perkins Avenue, Glass + More, Kalamazoo Vapor, and Purple Haz.
