Huron City Schools names new treasurer

HURON – Huron Board of Education named Paul DeMarco as the new treasurer for Huron City Schools on Monday.

DeMarco was a teacher for over 20 years, before earning his MBA from Cleveland State University with a concentration in finance and research interests in equity research and analytics. After that, in August 2021, he became the Chief Financial Officer for Fostoria City Schools.

DeMarco replaces Randy Drewyor, who resigned from Huron City Schools in September for a job at Perrysburg Schools. Since then, Betty Schwiefert has been serving as the interim treasurer.

Huron Board of Education President Jody Mast stated, “The Board of Education is confident that Mr. DeMarco will bring many beneficial qualities to the district, such as his attention to detail, engagement with community, staff, teachers, and most notably the board. With the addition of Mr. DeMarco, we feel the team is complete. Now it’s time to get to work on moving the district forward in a positive direction. Lastly, the board thanks Betty Schwiefert, interim treasurer, for her tireless dedication to the district.”

The board will vote on hiring DeMarco at their May 17 meeting. If approved, he will officially start his job with Huron City Schools on July 11. However, prior to his official start date, he will be in the district to work with Schwiefert on transitioning.

“The quality of the school district and the history of community support for the school system were important factors for me when deciding to apply for this position. I am looking forward to joining the school system and the community,” Mr. DeMarco said.
