What Erie County voters need to know for the May 3 Primary Election

SANDUSKY – The May 3 General Election is today; here’s a quick overview of what Erie County voters need to know about how to vote and what’s going to be on the ballot in this election.

Where do you vote?

Finding your polling place in a quick process. Simply type your address into the Erie County Board of Election’s Polling Location Search, and your polling place will be found.

When are the polls are open?

6:30AM to 7:30PM

What’s on the ballot?

Democratic and republican voters will be voting on the primaries for the following races:

  • Governor
  • Statewide offices (attorney general, auditor, treasurer, secretary of state)
  • U.S. House and Senate
  • Ohio Supreme Court

Ohio House and Senate races will not be voted on, due to the Ohio Supreme Court has rejecting all of the maps proposed by the Ohio Redistricting Commission. No election date has been set for the legislative primary contests.

Independent voters, expect those in Margaretta Township, will have nothing on their ballots.

All Margaretta Township voters will be voting on a renewal levy for the Margaretta Township Fire Department. If approved, the five-year renewal levy is for 2 mills, which breaks down to $0.20 per $100,000 valuation. Because it’s a renewal, taxes will stay the same.

Castalia voters will also be voting on a levy for Village of Castalia. If approved, the five-year levy is for 2.75 mills, which breaks down to $0.275 per $100,000 valuation. According to the ballot, the money would be used for “general construction, reconstruction, resurfacing, and repair of streets, roads, and bridges.”

Huron Insider will have coverage of the election results on Tuesday night.
