Woman charged, later arrested after allegedly stealing truck

BERLIN HEIGHTS and SANDUSKY – Tara Meggitt, 39, was charged with a felony Thursday evening after she allegedly stole a truck that was owned by the man whom she was working for.

According to a report from the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, the complainant told deputies that he picked up Meggitt and another man at the Best Budget Inn in Perkins Township. He claimed, according to the report, that he hired the two to help him clean out his barn.

He told deputies, according to the report, that once the two began working, they got into an argument. He claimed that following the argument Maggitt took off with his truck, the report states.

According to the report, he said that he attempted to chase Maggitt in a van; however, he lost sight of the truck. He also told deputies, according to the report, that when he returned, the man had also left the scene.

On Sunday night, according to a report from the Perkins Police Department, Meggitt was arrested at the Best Budget Inn.

She is charged with motor vehicle theft (F4) and is currently being held in the Erie County Jail.
