Sheriff’s Office issues warning about scam where caller warns about fake arrest warrant

SANDUSKY – The Erie County Sheriff’s Office says they have received several reports of a new phone scam for the caller pretends to be the Sheriff’s Office and warns that an arrest warrant is out for them.

The calls appear to be coming from the Sheriff’s Office’s phone line, due to the scammer spoofing the number.

The caller says the person on the other end of the phone has an arrest warrant out for them because they failed to show up to jury duty.

The Sheriff’s Office says this is fraud, and they do not operate in this manner.

If you receive a call similar to this, you are asked to hang up and not provide any information.
