Two charged after allegedly abusing their dog

SANDUSKY – Two individuals were charged Tuesday after a video allegedly showed them abusing their five-month-old pit bull.

According to a report from the Sandusky Police Department, police were called to the Bayshore Towers for a report of two individuals abusing their small dog.

When police arrived, the complaint and a woman claimed that they observed Caitlin Sherman and Dearco Robison abusing their dogs on multiple occasions, including on that day.

The report states police then spoke to Sherman and Robison. They, according to the report, denied abusing their five-month-old pit bull. They also claimed, the report states, that they were going to turn the dog into the Erie County Dog Warren on the following day, because they couldn’t handle the dog.

Police then viewed video footage of the reported incident. According to the report, the video showed Sherman walking the pit bull and Robison walking a small white beagle terrier. The video reportedly showed an individual walk past them and the pit bull attempted to playfully jump up on the individual. Sherman then, the video reportedly showed, yank the pit bull’s leash extremely hard, strike him with an open hand and as the dog laid down, and strike him with the other end of the leash. A few seconds later, the video reportedly showed, the dog calms down; however, Robinson then strikes the Pitbull extremely hard with the other end of the leash while the dog laid on the ground defenseless.

Sherman and Robinson were charged with cruelty to animals (M2). The pit bull was taken and transported to the Erie County Dog Pound.
