Bellevue man killed in single vehicle crash

BELLEVUE – A Bellevue man was killed early Monday morning in a single vehicle crash on County Road 34 west of Township Road 78 in Thompson Township in Seneca County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

According to the patrol, the incident happened when Brian Sampsel, 41, of Bellevue, was driving a 2003 Dodge Caravan westbound on County Road 34 near Township Road 78. Sampsel drove off of the right side of the road and began to lose control. He re-entered the roadway, overcorrected, and again drove off the right side of the roadway. Sampsel’s vehicle struck a tree, and overturned several times, ejecting Sampsel.

Sampsel was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS personnel.

There were two passengers in Sampsel’s vehicle at the time of the crash. Maxwell Alle, 22, of Bellevue, was the right front passenger in the vehicle. was wearing a seatbelt and sustained minor injuries from the crash. Evan Sampsel, 25, of Bellevue, was seated in the middle seat of the second row. He was not wearing a seat belt and sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash. Both were transported to Fisher Titus Medical Center by North Central EMS and were later released.

Alcohol consumption is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
