Two stabbed, one dead following Sandusky County turnpike plaza attack

CLYDE – A knife yielding individual allegedly stabbed two individuals at the Erie Islands Service Plaza on the Ohio Turnpike in Sandusky County Tuesday evening. One of individuals who was stabbed has died.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, at 5:17PM, the patrol began to receive calls about a male having stabbed at least two individuals at the Erie Islands Service Plaza.

At 5:25PM, a Sandusky County Sheriff’s deputy allegedly arrived on scene and made contact with the suspect, who was openly yielding the knife, in the parking lot. The deputy allegedly ordered the suspect to drop the knife. The suspect allegedly refused to drop the knife and began to charge at the deputy. The deputy allegedly began to try to use less lethal munitions on the suspect, but was unsuccessful. The deputy allegedly then shot the suspect.

The suspect was taken into custody, rendered first aid, and was taken by life flight to an area hospital.

One of the stabbing victims died at the scene as a result of the attack. The other victim was taken by life flight to an area hospital for life-threatening injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.

The plaza is closed to the public, as of 9PM Tuesday.
