Edison High School graduate among those killed in Afghanistan bombing

BERLIN HEIGHTS – An Edison High School graduate is among the 13 military personnel killed in the suicide bombing at the Kabul airport in Afghanistan Thursday.

Max Soviak, a Navy hospital corpsman, has been identified as being one of the victims from the blast.

Soviak was a Berlin Height native and a 2017 graduate of Edison High School.

According to WTOL, Soviak’s family confirmed his death and is asking for privacy.

The Navy released a statement saying, “We mourn the loss of this Sailor and we offer our deepest condolences to the loved ones of our fallen shipmate.”

Edison Local Schools superintendent Thomas Roth said in a statement, “Max was a good student who was active in sports and other activities throughout his school career. He was well respected and liked by everyone who knew him. Max was full of life in everything he did.”
