Authorities asking public to help identify man who pointed firearm at Fredericktown police officer

FREDERICKTOWN – The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, and Fredericktown Police Department are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a man who pointed a firearm at a police officer during a traffic stop near Fredericktown.

According to police, on Thursday afternoon, the Fredericktown Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a red Pontiac Grand Am. As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver pointed a firearm out the driver side window at the officer. The officer then fired at the driver. The driver then sped off. The officer pursued the vehicle for a short time, but eventually lost the vehicle. The vehicle was later found abandoned in Richland County.
