Police Blotter for the week of May 23

HURON – Below is a summary of Huron Police reports from between May 23 to May 29.

On May 23 at 5:05PM, police arrived at a Linden Drive house for a standby. A children’s services employee requested the standby, as she was doing a checkup on the homeowner’s children. The woman was able to check up on the children.

On May 24 at 8:30AM, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office reported that they had a man who had a warrant from Huron Municipal Court in custody. The man was later transported to the Erie County Sheriff’s Office.

On May 24 at 3:29PM, police arrived at the intersection of US6 and SR13 for a traffic crash. They found that a bicycle was riding on the northeast corner of the west bound lanes of US6 at SR13. A vehicle was west bound on US6 stopped for the red light at the intersection of SR13. While the west bound light was still red, the bicycle entered the crosswalk south bound. Once the light turned green, the vehicle drove west bound. The bicycle’s front then struck the right front corner of the vehicle.

On May 24 at 10:30AM, a woman arrived at the station to report a motor vehicle accident. She said that she stopped at the traffic light when she was struck in the back of her vehicle by another vehicle. She and that car’s driver exchanged insurance information. The only damage that took place in the incident was to the woman’s car. The damage was only a small scratch on her bumper.

On May 24 at 6:27PM, police arrived at Cleveland Road for a traffic crash. The found that a car, that was stationary in the east bound lane, was hit by a motorcycle, that was traveling east bound.

On May 24 at 6:46PM, police arrived at Nickel Plate Beach for a report of a man lying on the beach. Police found the man sleeping. They then woke him up. He told them that he was okay and was just sleeping. The man appeared to be intoxicated. He admitted to police that he drank too much. He was then arrested for public intoxication. He was brought back to the station, when he was released to a woman.

On May 25 at 3:54PM, police found a vehicle on Bogart Road that had been received a complaint. Police followed the vehicle, until it turned into a doctor’s office. While police were following the vehicle, they observed it hit a curb. Police spoke to the driver, who said that he was experiencing vision problems. He said that he was concerned about driving; however, he had no one to take him to his appointment. Police then asked him if he had anyone to pick him up. He said he did. Police contacted that person, who agreed to pick him up. Police then spoke to the secretary at the office, to tell her not to let him leave without someone to drive him back. A request for driver license examination on recertification form was filed for the man, after the incident.

On May 25 at 5:30PM, a man arrived at the station to turn in a cell phone he found at the pier. Police were able to contact a family member phone’s owner. He said that someone would pick it up.

On May 25 at 6:50PM, police arrived at Harbor House for a report of a disoriented woman trying to use a million-dollar bill. Police spoke to the woman, who said that her late-father gave her the bill, and she was trying to use it. The woman appeared to be intoxicated. When asked how many drinks she had, she said she only had one. Police gave the woman a breathalyzer test, and she got a .120. The bartenders said that she did only have one; however, she did leave for a period of time. The woman said that she would like to go to the hospital, due to her not feeling well. She was later transferred to the hospital.

On May 25 at 9:11PM, police arrived at Nickel Plate Beach for a vehicle lockout. Police were able to unlock the vehicle.

On May 26 at 12:45PM, the Independence Police Department reported that they had a man and a woman in custody on two warrants issued by Huron Municipal Court. The two were later transferred to the Erie County Jail.

On May 26 at 5:19PM, police arrived at a Firwood Road house for a report of a neighbor’s dog digging in a woman’s yard. Police spoke to the woman, who was the complainant. She showed police a dug-up portion of her seed bed, that is located along her fence. She said that this has happened multiple times. She also said that her neighbor’s dog did this. She has no evidence of the dog doing this, nor has she seen the dog doing this; though, she did say that the damage started happening around the time her neighbor got the dog. Police then went over and spoke with the neighbor. She said that her dog cannot get out of her house. She then showed police her backyard. The backyard fenced and had no places for the dog to escape.

On May 26 at 5:56PM, police arrived at a Main Street house at the request of Huron Fire. Huron Fire had arrived at the house to assist a woman who was having difficulty breathing. When police arrived, they found that the driveway had screws, bolts, and rivets spread out across it. When asked why metal objects were in the driveway, the woman said she put them there because she was tired of people turning around in her driveway. Several of the metal objects got into the tread of the ambulance. The woman was transported to the hospital. She was later charged with criminal damaging or endangering (M2).

On May 26 at 7:54PM, police arrived at the Reserve at Lakeview Landing for a welfare check. A man said that he has not recently heard from a woman who lives in an apartment there. Police were able to get a maintenance worker to open the door to the apartment. Police found the woman in the living room unresponsive and breathing. She was later transported to Firelands Regional Medical Center.

On May 27 at 4:14AM, police arrived at a Seneca Avenue house for a report of smoke alarms going off. Huron Fire said they would try to fix the alarms.

On May 27 at 4:28AM, police arrived at a Richland Avenue house for a man who was under the influence of narcotics. Police spoke to the man who had trouble speaking and appeared to be under the influence. Police found out that the man took more than his prescribed dose of sleeping sedative. He was checked by fire and later taken to Fireland Regional Medical Center.

On May 27 at 12:23PM, the school resource officer reported that a possibly intoxicated parent leaving graduation. Soon after he left, police began following her. At Canterbury Drive, police activated their lights; however, the driver did not stop. It took till the they were on Cleveland Road West in the area of Lima Avenue for the driver to pull over. Police then spoke to the driver. She said that she was sad, due to her son graduating high school. While the driver was speaking, she appeared to be intoxicated. When police told her about their observations, she said that she had four ounces of Vodka that day. She also said that there was no alcohol in her vehicle, due to her throwing it out of the car while driving to graduation. Police then had the driver preform field sobriety test, which she failed. She was then arrested. She had .216% BAC. She was charged with speed (45/35), failure to drive the right half of the roadway, DUI, and OVI per se. She then tried to contact several of her family members to pick her up. They refused to pick her up. The driver was later transported to the Erie County Jail.

On May 27 at 1:40PM, a man arrived at the police station for a golf cart inspection. After a $25 fee was paid, police inspected the vehicle. After meeting all of the requirements, the owner was issued a copy of the form and an inspection sticker was placed on the vehicle.

On May 27 at 3:00PM, a man arrived at the police station to report mail fraud. He said that after he sold an item on Craigslist for $600, a person responded to the post and agreed to pay the asking price. The person then sent the man a $1,980 check and told him that the buyer would pick up the idem that day. He asked the man to cash the check and send him the remaining amount. When the man went to cash the check, KeyBank told him that it was fraudulent. KeyBank then requested that the man file a police report.

On May 28 at 11:33AM, police arrived at a Rye Beach Road house for property damage. A man said that a wave had come over his break wall and damaged his truck. The truck sustained damage to the driver’s side door; as a result, the door was difficult to open. Police told the man to contact his insurance.

On May 28 at 12:28PM, police arrived at a, Adams Avenue house for a tree that had fallen on the house. Police assisted with traffic control.

On May 28 at 7:30PM, the Huron County Sherriff’s Office reported that they had a man in custody who had a warrant issued by Huron Municipal Court. The man was later transported to the Erie County Jail.

On May 28 at 8:45PM, police observed a vehicle traveling above the speed limit on Cleveland Road. When police pulled the driver over, he was unable to provide a license or proof of insurance. He was charged with speed (MM) and No Operators License (UM).

On May 28 at 10:26PM, police arrived at Brunswick Drive for a tree that had fallen in the road. The tree had struck a city vehicle and a private vehicle. The city vehicle had damage to the rear passenger door, roof, and, rear windshield. The private vehicle had damage to the windshield. The tree was removed from the road, and picture were taken.

On May 29 at 8:24AM, police and squad arrived at Admiral’s Pointe Nursing Home for a resident that was known to escape and be combative. The resident was located in his room.

On May 29 at 8:25PM, a woman arrived at the police station to report that her sister was violating a protection order. The woman said that her sister had posted false information about her on social media. Police could not find a protection order between the two. They referred the woman to the prosecutor.

On May 29 at 2:31PM, a man arrived at the police station for a golf cart inspection. After a $25 fee was paid, police inspected the vehicle. After meeting all of the requirements, the owner was issued a copy of the form and an inspection sticker was placed on the vehicle.

On May 29 at 4:01PM, police arrived at a North Port Lane house for a menacing complaint. A woman said that she was worried about her ex-boyfriend, who previously lived at the house with her, returning to the house. She said that since the breakup, he had made treats toward others, but not her. Police advised the woman about evictions.

On May 29 at 8:18PM, police arrived at Ohio Street for a fallen tree. The tree had hit what police believed to be a telephone line. Ohio Edison was called to the scene and cleared the line.

On May 29 at 9:03PM, an Erie County Sheriff Deputy reported that they had a woman who had a warrant from Huron Municipal Court. She was later transported to the Erie County Jail.

On May 29 at 9:43PM, police arrived at a Sand Drive house for a welfare check. The welfare check was on a girl who had made suicidal comments on social media and was not responding to messages. Police spoke to the girls dad. He said that she was not at the house and was at her mom’s house. Police the notified dispatch to have them send a deputy to the mom’s house.

On May 29 at 10:32PM, police arrived at a Miami Place house for a 911 call. The found that the 911 call was made by mistake.
