Two Cleveland bars cited for COVID-19 health order violations during first night of NFL Draft

CLEVELAND – On Thursday, April 29, the Ohio Investigative Unit charged two Cleveland bars after they were observed violating COVID-19 health orders. Both bars were cited while the NFL Draft was being held in Cleveland. The bars that were cited are listed below along with their charge.

The Ivy received a citation for improper conduct – disorderly activity. At 7:55PM, agents said they observed approximately 170 patrons inside the liquor permit premises, little to no social distancing measures or physical barriers, and mask-less patrons closely congregated near the bar.

Dive Bar received a citation for improper conduct – disorderly activity. Agents arrived at the establishment at 8:20PM and said they observed approximately 200 patrons closely congregating. Agents said they also witnessed patrons reaching over others at the bar to order and also obtain their beverages. Little to no social distancing measures or physical barriers were in place. Many patrons were also not wearing masks.

All cases listed above will go before the Ohio Liquor Control Commission for potential penalties, including fines and/or the suspension or revocation of liquor permits

The agents are from the Ohio Investigative Unit. The Ohio Investigative Unit is made up of fully-sworn, plainclothes peace officers. They are responsible for enforcing Ohio’s alcohol, tobacco, and food stamp fraud laws. That includes conducting compliance checks to ensure that liquor permit premises are in compliance with the Ohio Liquor Control Act.
