Police Blotter for the week of March 14

Huron, OH – Below is a summary of Huron Police reports from between March 14, 2021 to March 20, 2021.

On March 14 at 3:02AM, the Ohio State Highway Patrol arrived at the Huron Police station with a man for a breathalyzer test. The test showed that the man had a blood alcohol level of .157%. A family member later arrived to pick him up.

On March 14 at 10:48AM, the Sandusky Police Department called and said they had a man in custody on an outstanding warrants issued from the Huron Municipal Court. The man told Sandusky Police that he had recently ingested illegal narcotics. After he was cleared by Firelands Regional Medical Center, he was transferred the to the Erie County Jail.

On March 14 at 4:16PM, a woman contacted police to request an escort so she could get her belongings from her Adams Avenue house. Police arrived at the house and the woman was able to collect her medication and clothing from the house.

On March 14 at 6:12PM, police arrived at a Miami Place house for a child custody complaint. A man said that at that day at 6:00PM he was supposed to pick up his son. He said that he had recently changed the custody schedule around to accommodate his ex-wife’s schedule. He said that he would like to get back to the court ordered schedule. He said that he texted his ex-wife multiple times that day and that she didn’t respond. Police then spoke to his ex-wife. She said that she would not stop her son from going with his father, but he didn’t want to. After some back and forth, the man was able get his son and leave.

On March 15 at 1:43AM, police arrived at a Rye Beach Road home for a hit-skip crash. They observed that several mailboxes and trash cans were damaged. A woman said that she heard a loud noise outside and when she went to investigate, she observed what she believed to be a brown RAV4 traveling south bound. Police searched the area for the vehicle, with no success. Later, police were contacted by an Erie County Sheriff deputy who said that a Perkins Police officer may have found the vehicle. The Perkins Police officer said that she found a GMC Yukon, that had heavy damage to the front and passenger side of the vehicle, in the Rye Beach Shell parking lot. The vehicle had struck one of the concrete barriers at the gas station. Police made contact with the driver of the car. The man seemed disoriented and confused. He was then transported to the Firelands Emergency Room for evaluation. Contact was made with the man’s daughter. She said that he had Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease. She also said that he had been missing earlier in the day and is not supposed to be driving in the dark. She was then told about the damages her father made.

On March 15 at 3:37AM, police arrived at the Law Brothers Auto Body for a report of an alarm. The exterior of the building was checked and found to be secure.

On March 15 at 4:50AM, police arrived at a Cleveland Road apartment for a noise complaint. When they arrived, they could hear loud music. They met with a man who lives in the apartment. He admitted the music was loud and said that he would turn it down.

On March 15 at 5:25PM, police arrived at a Riverside Drive house for a dog running complaint. She said that a large brown dog from down the street keeps coming in to her yard. She also said she knows where the dog lives. Police then spoke to the owner who said she is in the process of getting a lead for the dog so they could place it outside.

On March 15 at 7:27PM, a woman contacted police to request an escort so she could get her belongings from her Adams Avenue house. Police arrived at the house and the woman was able to collect her clothing, a curling iron, and a hair dryer. Police then told her that she would need to go through the court, as was third day in a row that she requested a stand-by.

On March 16 at 2:46AM, police arrived in the 400 block of Berlin Road for a report of a black sedan driving at a high rate of speed with a loud muffler. When police arrived, the saw a man talking to another man. The second man said that it was his car, and he apologized because he knows his muffler is loud.

On March 16 at 10:04AM, police arrived at the area of SR 2 eastbound near Rye Beach Road on the report of an unruly juvenile. When police arrived, they found three people; a man, a woman, and a girl; in a vehicle; that was parked roadside. The woman said that she was having problems with her daughter in the vehicle. The problems started after they attended a school disciplinary hearing at her school. In the car, there was an argument about where her daughter was going to be staying and completing school work. During the argument, The woman told her daughter that she “brought (her) into this world and can take (her) out.” Her daughter responded. “Do it!” The woman then stopped the vehicle, exited her seat and opened the door to the back seat. He daughter then starting moving around and struck her in the right side of the jaw. The strike only caused light pain and discomfort the jaw and did not result in a physical mark. Police then spoke to the girl. She said that she was arguing with her mother about school work and where she could stay. During the argument, the girl told her mother that she was going to kill her and that her mother said that she “brought her into this world and would take her out.” The girl told her to “do it.” He mother then stopped the vehicle, entered the back seat area, and pinned her to the seat. She then tried to get her mother off of her and while doing this, her hand made contact with her mother’s face. At the mother’s request, her daughter was charged with domestic violence (M-1) and transported to the Erie County Detention Center.

On March 16 at 11:51AM, police arrived at Carmeuse Lime and Stone for a trespassing complaint. The site coordinator showed two videos and a still photo of a male trespassing on the property, on March 14 at 11:01AM. She does not believe the male stole or tampered with anything. The male could not be identified. He is a white male, dark colored flannel jacket, gray pants, and a thin build. She said that if he is identified, she would like him charged.

On March 16 at 12:05PM, police arrived at a house on Geauga Drive for a golf cart inspection. After a $25 fee was paid, police inspected the vehicle. After meeting all of the requirements, the owner was issued the white copy of the form and an inspection sticker was placed on the vehicle.

On March 18 at 4:29PM, police arrived at a Gloucester Drive house for a theft. A woman said that she and her husband had ordered new passports for their upcoming vacation, but only her husbands had arrived. She said that a tracker showed that the passport was delivered on March 9. She believes that the same person who stole her wallet from Kroger on March 5 went to her house and stole her passport. She also said that she has reported her passport stolen and ordered a replacement.

On March 18 at 11:51PM, police received a call from the Michigan State University Police Department in East Lansing, MI. They said that they received a call from their campus mental health office that a former MSU student advised their friend had posted pictures on their Twitter account of their arms with cuts. The friend was living at a home on Wexford Drive. Huron Police then called his father. He said that his son was in Mentor, but he was aware of the tweet. He said that his son has metal heath issues. He also said that he would contact the probate court in the morning to have his son committed for a mental health evaluation. At 1:45AM, the father called and said that his son returned home and he was fine.

On March 19 at 2:00PM, the Ohio State Highway Patrol arrived at the Huron Police station with a man for a breathalyzer test. After the test, the man was released from the station.

On March 19 at 2:26PM, police arrived at an Oakwood Avenue house for a complaint about the living conditions of a dog. When police arrived at the house, they observed a fenced in area attached to the rear of the house that was full of feces. There was a door to the house within the fenced area that had a small door attached for animals. Police then spoke to a man who lives at the house. He said that he would have the feces disposed of by the end of the day.

On March 19 at 8:03PM, police arrived at a Wexford Drive house for a report of a man who made suicidal posts in a chat room. The complantent told dispatch that a man posted that he took several pills. Police spoke to the man who admitted to making statements in an online chatroom that would be considered suicidal. He stated he did not wish to harm himself and made the comments to seek attention. He also admitted to consuming alcohol and taking “DXM” believing that may have led to him making the statements. Due to this and a previous incident, the man, with his consent, was transported to a hospital for an evaluation.

On March 19 at 9:24PM, police arrived at a Center Street home to assist the Huron Fire Department with a person who requested help. When police arrived, they discovered a woman on the floor in the back room of the home.

On March 20 at 3:00PM, a person arrived at the Huron Police Department to turn in a Visa US bank ReliaCard that was found on Standard Street. Police tried to contact the owner of the card; however, it’s owner was no longer residing at the listed address.

On March 20 at 6:38PM, police, while on patrol at the shoulder of SR2 on ramp at Rye Beach Road, observed a white Hyundai Sonata bearing pass their location. They then conducted a random BMV compliance check on the listed vehicle. They check showed that the registered owner having a suspended license, and that the vehicle had an expired registration. A traffic stop was initiated at SR2 and Bogart Rd. The driver was advised of the reason for the stop and was then told to get out of the vehicle. Police then conducted a search of the vehicle, where they found a glass bowl used for smoking marijuana. The driver said that he no longer wanted the bowl. The bowl was smashed on the road side, pieces collected and disposed of in the city of Huron dumpster. The man was transported to station where he filled out the recognizance bond. Foster’s arrived later and took possession of the vehicle.

On March 20 at 10:05PM, while on patrol at State Route 2, police noticed a silver Chevy driving directly in front of the cruiser exiting the highway. The vehicle turned right onto Rye Beach Road without signally the turn and turned directly into the middle lane of travel. A traffic stop was then initiated. The driver was advised of the violations and was unaware of making them. When asked for his license, the driver handed over an Ohio identification card and admitted his license was suspended. When police check his license, they found that the license was under four (4) open suspensions. The ma the exited the vehicle and was charged with DUS – FRA (M-4) and warning #47190 for failure to signal and turning at intersections.
