Erie County schools to close on March 22 due to COVID-19 vaccinations

Sandusky, OH – All Erie County schools will be closed on Monday, March 22, Erie County Superintendents announced in a press release Thursday. The closure is due concerns related to school staff getting the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

On Saturday, February 27 and Sunday, February 28, schools staff will get the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. The vaccines will be distributed by the Erie County Health Department. More than 1,600 doses are expected to be distributed on the two days.

Then on Saturday, March 20 and Sunday, March 21, staff will get their second dose. Due to concerns of side effects related to the second dose, Monday, March 22 will be a “calamity day.”
