Helen Link

Helen J (Veletean) Link.  It is with much sadness, but also in celebration of a life well lived, her family announces her peaceful passing in the early morning hours of Wednesday December 30, 2020.

Helen was born to George and Mary (Simon) Veletean on February 8,1927 in Plymouth, Ohio.

She spent her early years in Willard, Ohio, where she attended a one room schoolhouse. She graduated from Willard High School in 1945. She went on to attend Providence School of Nursing in Sandusky, Ohio, earning her RN degree in 1951. She worked as a nurse at Providence Hospital until her children were born. Returning in the early 1970’s and retiring in the late 80’s.

She married the love of her life, Lawrence J Link in Sandusky, Ohio on February 13,1954. In 1958, she and Larry packed up their 4 children, including newborn twins and moved to Bristol, CT, for Larry’s job transfer. The family of 7 by then, moved back to Huron in 1966, where she lived for the rest of her life.

Helen was a woman of great faith. Her and Larry were very involved in their church, St Peter in Huron. Helen was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society, the Funeral luncheon committee, and a lay distributor for those who were homebound. She volunteered in the school cafeteria, always making sure her grandchildren had a dime for extras. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society and she sang in the choir.

Helen volunteered countless hours helping at the Sandusky Library and Double S, as a reading tutor. She loved to play cards and was involved in many card groups with friends, playing until Covid hit. She was a good friend to many, still checking up on them when she was homebound.

But by far Helen’s greatest legacy was her family. She shared her love with them through her cooking. Countless holiday or “supper club” meals were shared with all who came through her door.

Her undying faith was tested many times in her life, the most with the loss of Larry in 1983 and her twin daughter, Sarajane in 2002. Her parents and her siblings, John, Mary, Sam, Tillie and Ann also are waiting to be reunited with her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Julie (Gil) Sanchez, Joel (Teresa) Link, Valjean (Larry) Thaxton and Mark (Sarah) Link.  Her most cherished grandchildren whom each will carry such great memories forever, Dan, Emily, Ashley, Jake, Nicholaus, Elizabeth, Derrick, Meghan, Nolan, Samuel, Jessika, Jamie, Matt, and Katy.  And then, if that was not enough blessings along came the greats, whose visits she looked so forward to, Shamus, Teagan, Julianna, Maria, Jade, Lincoln, Henry, Tillie, Sophia, Aubrey, Maddie, Braxton, Helen, Arlo, Lionel, Morgan, Jackson, Harper, Ophilia and one more due any day.

Her extended family also includes 7 step grandchildren and many more greats, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Helen’s life will be celebrated with a family mass and a memorial later this summer.

The family wishes to thank Deb, Kate, cousin Jude and Stein Hospice for the loving care they showed Helen and her family, these last months.

Those wishing to send memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, can be made to St. Vincent de Paul, in care of St. Peter Church, Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870, or St. Peter School, 430 Main Street, Huron, OH  44839.

We are so very sad to hear of the passing of Miss Helen. She was absolutely one of a kind. Wonderful caring heart, kind soul, God fearing and her family was the world to her.
She and my Mom Ellie can visit and laugh for eternity too. Prayers for comfort to you all.
