Schools across Ohio receive bomb threat

Dozens of school districts across Ohio received a bomb threat Sunday afternoon.

According to a post from Clear Fork Local Schools in Richland County, which was one of the districts that received the threat, the threat was emailed to school districts and claimed to be from a Russian terrorist organization, though the true sender’s identity is unknown. The email claimed that bombs had been placed in American schools in retaliation for American’s support of Ukraine. The names of the supposed schools were not in the email.

Local law enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are now investigating the threats. Officials stated they believe there is no credible threat.

Similar threats were sent to school districts last week in other areas of the country.

Locally, Edison Local Schools, Huron City Schools, Perkins Local Schools, and Sandusky City Schools all shared on social media Sunday night that they plan to have classes on Monday and will have increased law enforcement presence in their schools.

Edison, Huron, and Sandusky stated that they were recipients of the threat. Perkins stated they did not receive it.

“Please know that we remain committed to our school district’s safety and work closely with law enforcement to respond to any potential threats,” Edison Superintendent Corey Reem said in the district’s social media post.
