New schools, Sunday liquor sales on the May 2 ballot

ERIE COUNTY – From building new schools to allowing bars to sell liquor on Sunday, certain Erie County voters will have a chance to vote on issues at the Tuesday, May 2 Special Election.

What’s on the ballot?

Voters in the Edison Local School District will vote on a bond issue for the construction of a new preschool to 5th grade building in Berlin Helighs and the renovation of Edison High School to add 6th to 8th grade. The bond issue has a principal amount of $46.715 million and will be repaid annually over a maximum of 37 years.

Voters in the Perkins Local School District will vote on a bond issue for the construction of a new combined middle and high school building. The new building is proposed to be built along Strub Road. Under the plan, elementary students will move into the current Perkins High School. The bond issue has a principal amount of $76 million and will be repaid annually over a maximum of 37 years.

Voters in the city of Sandusky precinct G will vote on issues to allow three bars to sell wine, mixed beverages, and spirituous liquor on Sundays. The bars are Volstead Bar, located at 316 E. Water Street; Everwild Spirits, located at 212 Hanock Street; and Clubhouse No. 3 Sport Social, located at 220 East Water Street.

Voters can find their polling place by typing their address into the Erie County Board of Elections’ polling location search.

When are the polls are open?

6:30AM to 7:30PM.
