Man allegedly assaults stepdaughter, threatens her fiancé, flees area

HURON – Following an air and land search, a 58-year-old man was arrested Monday morning after he allegedly assaulted his stepdaughter, threatened her fiancé, and then fled the area.

According to a report from the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a Camp Road house on Sunday evening following a 911 hang-up call. During a call back, according to the report, a female reported a problem with a male.

When deputies arrived at the house, according to the report, police observed a man and two women yelling inside. When police knocked on the door, the two women answered and the man left the room, the report states.

According to the report, one of the women told police that the incident started when she was dropped off at the house by her fiancé after her mother, the other woman, said she could spend the night. She claimed that her stepfather, Michael Camp, came out of the garage with a rifle, walked up to her fiancé’s car, pointed the rifle in his face, and told him he would kill him if he ever returned.

The woman claimed that she then confronted Camp, and, when she did, he pushed her, causing her to fall onto the concrete stairs and chip her front tooth.

The report states the mother backed up her daughter’s story. The two added Camp suffers from PTSD, with his stepdaughter adding he was trained in “tactical things.”

According to the report, deputies then saw Camp walking toward the garage. They carefully attempted to follow him but were unable to locate him.

The report states that deputies searched and cleared the house and a pole barn. A K-9 unit and a drone unit were called in to assist with the search. The K-9 was unable to be utilized due to having no tracking ability. The thermal imaging drone was used with negative results. Deputies then left the area but told the two women to contact them if Camp returned, the report states.

Soon after, the women did call to report that Camp had returned. Deputies then returned and, after several commands, Camp surrendered, the report states.

Camp was charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony, and domestic violence, a first-degree felony. He was transported to the Erie County Jail.

Two firearms were also seized from the residence during the initial search, the report states.
