Design plan approved for new Sandusky Aquatic Center

SANDUSKY – The Sandusky City Schools Board of Education, at their Tuesday meeting, approved a design plan for the new Sandusky Aquatic Center.

The Sandusky Aquatic Center is planned to be a new swimming center to not only be the home of the Blue Streaks swimming program, but also to teach younger students how to swim and host events for the community.

The approved plan, which was designed by ThenDesign Architecture, a firm out of Willoughby, includes the following:

  • A new 8-lane pool
  • New spectator seating
  • New family/community locker rooms
  • New entrance and lobby
  • Updated athletic locker rooms
  • Additional storage spaces
  • Converting the old pool room into a multipurpose room

The current expected completion date for the project is December 2024.

“This new, one pool design will assist us in meeting the needs of our students and community while also ensuring the district continues to be a good steward of district and community resources. The new Sandusky Aquatic Center will be a vast upgrade to the current pool that is over 60 years old.”, said Board President Martha Murray.
