16 killed on Ohio roadways over Thanksgiving weekend

COLUMBUS – 16 individuals were killed on Ohio’s roadways this Thanksgiving holiday weekend, the Ohio State Highway Patrol is reporting.

During the five-day reporting period, which ran from Wednesday, November 23 at 12:00 am through Sunday, November 27 at 11:59 pm, 16 people were killed in 15 fatal crashes. Of the 16 individuals killed, two were pedestrians and ten were not wearing a seat belt. Six of the fifteen crashes involved impaired driving.

During last year’s Thanksgiving holiday weekend, 17 individuals were killed in 14 crashes.

Also this year, troopers arrested 270 people for operating a vehicle while impaired and 130 for drugs. They also issued 686 citations for safety belt violations and 100 for distracted driving. Troopers also assisted 1,542 motorists.
