Three juveniles accused of robbing man, attempting to break into cars in the same night

SANDUSKY – Three juvenile boys were arrested and charged with multiple crimes early Saturday morning after they allegedly assaulted a man and stole his wallet and attempted to break into several cars.

According to reports from the Sandusky Police Department, police first responded to the area of Washington and Decatur Streets for a report of several “younger” individuals who were attempting to open car doors.

While the officer was arriving to the scene, according to the report, he observed three juveniles who had been previously arrested for motor vehicle thefts. Due to the juveniles’ previous arrests and that they were in the area at the time, the officer believed that they were involved in the attempted vehicle entries, the report states.

Police were able to locate and arrest the three juveniles in a backyard of a Fulton Street residence, the report states.

While police were investigating the attempted vehicle entries, according to the report, another officer responded to a Milan Road gas station for a report of a robbery.

According to the report, a man told police that while he was assaulted and robbed while leaving a downtown bar around 2:30AM. He told police that one of the individuals struck him in the face. He said that he tried separating himself, but the individuals continued to follow him. He stated that when he passed the library, all three individuals began assaulting him and eventually took his wallet.

The report states that the man described the individuals who robbed him as “kids.” Due to police believing that the incidents may be related, according to the report, the man was transported to the area where the three juveniles were being arrested. The report states that without hesitation, the man positively identified the three juveniles as the ones who had assaulted and robbed him.

The three juveniles were each charged with robbery, a second-degree felony, criminal mischief, a third-degree misdemeanor, and a curfew violation, a status offense. They were transported to the Erie County Detention Center.
