Janet Cutinella

Janet Cutinella (also known as Janet Mora), 72, of Huron, passed away on December 8, 2020 in Huron, after a lengthy illness.

Janet was born on July 31, 1948 in The Bronx, New York, to Joseph and Kate Cutinella, and on the occasion of her sister Pam’s fourth birthday. Their shared birthday was always a fun and special family event.

During her youth, Janet lived in so many places, as her family moved frequently to keep pace with her father’s career with The Hoover Company. She lived in Cherry Hill, New Jersey; Buffalo, New York; Overland Park, Kansas; North Canton, Ohio; Brussels, Belgium; and Greenwich, Connecticut, all before graduating high school. She attended the University of Connecticut for two years before moving back to Canton, Ohio with her parents. Her happiest times growing up were the four years she spent in North Canton prior to moving to Belgium before her junior year of high school. Though she did not graduate from Hoover High School, she attended several class reunions and was always included in the class of 1966. Dear friends she made during that time would become lifelong friends she always cherished.

As an adult, Janet lived in Texas for twenty years, and always considered it her home, even long after she moved back to Ohio. She always had a special place in her heart for family and friends she made during this time of her life. She also became an enduring Cowboys fan and always loved to see them play.

She spent the last thirty years in Ohio, mostly in North Canton, but more recently in Huron, where she moved to be close to her daughter Stephanie’s family. Janet worked in banking for nearly two decades, starting as a teller for United Bank. She worked her way up through collections and ultimately had a very successful and fulfilling career in private banking. She made so many friends along the way, colleagues and customers alike, many of whom she stayed in touch with long after her retirement.

Janet had a lifelong interest in politics and current events and wanted so much to live to vote in the 2020 presidential election. She voted absentee and was so pleased when she was notified that her ballot had been accepted. Janet could always be counted on for lively political debate and an impassioned defense of the principles and values that were important to her. She loved music, with singer-songwriters and classic rock bands from the 1970s always among her favorites.

Janet was intelligent and witty, loving and loyal. She would do absolutely anything for the people she loved, and she took every opportunity to let them know how important they were to her. She was a wonderful mother who raised two spirited and independent daughters. She loved being a grandma, and her grandchildren meant the world to her. She will be dearly missed by so many.

Janet is survived by her daughter, Stephanie, son-in-law, David Walls, and grandchildren, Lauren and Nicholas Walls of Huron, and Eleanor Mora of North Canton; sister, Pamela (David) Gault of North Canton; nephew Joseph (Jennifer) Gault of Columbus; niece, Amy (Mark) Memmer of Canton; three great-nieces and three great-nephews.

Janet is preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth Mora; parents, Joseph and Kate Cutinella; nephew, John Gault; maternal grandparents, Leopold and Angelina Cappello; and paternal grandparents, Bernard and Bessie Cutinella.

Out of an abundance of caution during the pandemic, there will be no memorial service. A private burial will be held at Meadow Green Memorial Park in Huron.

Memorial contributions may be made in Janet’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or to Stein Hospice of Erie County.
