How local school districts did on their Ohio School Report Card

On Thursday, the Ohio Department of Education released their 2022 Ohio School Report Cards. Unlike prior years, districts and schools did not receive overall leader grades. Instead, schools receive ratings from one to five stars on five rated components and also various report-only data.

“The more we understand the needs of students through the Ohio School Report Card results and other data, the better we can personalize education, focus instruction and tailor enrichment programs to accelerate and enhance learning,” Interim Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Stephanie Siddens said.

Here’s a look at what local school districts received on their report cards:

“Huron City Schools’ performance on the state accountability report card continues to be strong,” Superintendent Dr. James Tatman said in a statement to Huron Insider. “We earned 19 out of 25 possible stars for the rated areas. Huron remains a leader in the region for ODE’s report card system. This assessment data is one piece of the puzzle when considering ways to improve the performance of the district.”

Dr. Tatman added, “Other factors are also considered. As an example, this summer six Huron teachers participated in the Erie County Business Advisory Council’s “Boot Camp” program. They toured local businesses and spoke to leaders about what they are seeking in new employees. Responses included skills like, problem-solving, collaboration, perseverance, creativity, and working as a member of a team. These skills are not measured in the state’s report card but are equally important for our students’ life-long success and our district’s improvement. I look forward to continuing to build upon our current programs and services to meet the needs of the students in collaboration with staff, students, parents, and the community.”

Talking with parents and neighbors, browsing school and district websites or visiting schools and meeting educators can provide a more complete picture of students’ educational experiences.”
