Elizabeth Anne Eddowes

Dr. Elizabeth Anne (Evans) Eddowes, 90, residing in Sandusky, passed away Thursday morning, September 15, 2022 at Parkvue Health Care Center following a brief illness.

Anne was born on November 23, 1931 in Sandusky, OH to the late Carl and Helen (Sutter) Evans and dedicated her life to her family and education. She and her husband, Ed, lived in several states across the country. She began her career as an elementary school teacher and continued her education through a Ph.D. in Early Childhood Education. This led to experience at the community college and university levels. She retired from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1996.

Anne’s roots were with the United Church of Christ. Over the years she belonged to various Presbyterian Churches. She supported music and preschool programs at the First Presbyterian Church of Huron. With her academic background, she assisted several churches in starting weekly preschool programs. Throughout her life Anne belonged to and volunteered for numerous professional and service organizations.

Anne and her family visited the Sandusky area often during her life. She spent many summers at her family cottage on Kelleys Island, which her family has owned for 42 years. Anne volunteered to secure several grants from local foundations to complete the Kelleys Island Historical Museum.

In 2018, Anne moved from Arizona and became a resident of Parkvue. Soon afterwards, she assisted in writing a grant proposal to fund repaving the walkway on the Parkvue campus. Anne continued to assist with grants for Parkvue, supported and advised on resident campaigns, provided testimonials for grant requests, connected the community to philanthropic resources, and endorsed the Ruth Frost Parker Center for Abundant Aging as a founding funder. She received the 2022 Ben M. Herbster award in August.

She is survived by son, Scott Eddowes of San Jose, CA; sister, Mrs. Robert (Martha) Speers of Huron and granddaughter, Mrs. Gerard (Rachel) Souser of Richmond, VA.

In addition to her parents, Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Edward Eddowes and son, Capt. Andrew Eddowes, USN.

Family memorial services will be held at the Chapel at Parkvue Place, 3800 Boardwalk Blvd., Sandusky. Inurnment will take place in Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
