Howard Barnum

Howard L. Barnum, 95, residing in Sandusky, passed away Thursday afternoon, September 8, 2022 at Stein Hospice Care Center.

Howard was born January 31, 1927 in Sandusky, OH to the late Hurless W. and Marietta L. (McCartney) Barnum.

Howard retired from Ford Motor Company in 1988. He was a Veteran of the US Army who proudly served his country during World War II. Howard was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post #83. In his spare time, he enjoyed “cold” Toft’s ice cream, bowling, building puzzles, taking car trips, going to the casino, sitting at the dock watching boats on the bay, and setting up his Christmas Village and train each year. He was a simple, loving man, who thoroughly enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren.

Howard is survived by his sons, Lester (Jackie) Barnum of Sparta, GA and William (Kimberly) Barnum of Sandusky; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Howard is preceded in death by the love of his life, wife of 60 years, Mary L. (Petersen) Barnum on November 3, 2005; son, Paul Barnum; daughter, Cheryl Cleavenger and all of his 12 brothers and sisters.

Friends may call on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 from 10:00 am until the time of funeral services at 12:00 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Burial will follow in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron
