Woman accused of breaking into man’s house, pepper spraying him

SANDUSKY – A 26-year-old woman was charged with a felony on July 28 after she allegedly broke into a man’s house and pepper sprayed him, which caused to be hospitalized.

According to a report from the Sandusky Police Department, police responded to the Linden Street house for a 911 hang up call, where the caller gave only gave the address and said to hurry up. Soon after that call, according to the report, a woman called 911 and said that Davina McEwen was trying to enter her husband’s house and pepper sprayed him.

The report states that when police arrived at the house, they found signs of forced entry and that the window AC unit had been pushed in. While police were at the house, another 911 call was received from the BP on Venice Road.

At the BP, according to the report, police found McEwen and the man who had been sprayed.

Police found the man in the bathroom trying to remove the pepper spray from his eyes, the report states. He claimed, according to the report, that the incident started when McEwen came to his house angry, pushed in his window, entered his house, and sprayed him with the pepper spray. The man was transported by the Sandusky Fire Department to Firelands Regional Medical Center, where he had tubes attached to eyes in order to flush them out.

McEwen, according to the report, first claimed that she came to his house so he could give her a ride for work and when she did, she heard screaming coming from inside the residence. She claimed that she then began pounding on his front door and once the man came out Brandon, she took him to the BP and to buy him some milk so he could flush his eyes out, the report states.

Soon after, according to the report, McEwen changed her story and claimed that the man got into a physical altercation on his front porch, where he choked her and pushed her up against the AC unit.

Both store clerks at the BP claimed that when the man came into the store, he accused McEwen of pepper spraying him. The man’s wife, according to the report, later told police that prior to the incident McEwen called her husband earlier in the day said that he was “going to have to call the police on her today.”

McEwen was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary, a second-degree misdemeanor.
