Over 100 children dressed up in patriotic outfits and marched through Tehachapi as part of the community’s Fourth of July celebration, demonstrating neighbourhood pride and patriotic spirit.
The kids rode bikes, scooters, and waggons to Marx Central Park for the Kids Parade, which began at City Hall. Many children had their faces painted red, white, and blue for the event.
Benjamin, one of the young participants, enjoyed taking part in the celebration.
“Very cool…” Benjamin said, “I like my bike.”
Mayor Pro Tem Jeanette Pauer, who painted faces at the event, commented that it appeared to be the largest turnout of children for the annual parade.
“Their faces are so adorable. And it’s just so beautiful. It’s wonderful to see their love for our community and how excited they are for the Fourth of July, and we enjoy having them. “And we enjoy the sense of community that they provide,” Pauer said.
Following the parade, a ceremony included the national anthem and the pledge of allegiance. Photos of active military members from Tehachapi were displayed at the gazebo, where Blue Star mothers greeted visitors.
Janet Tehee, whose son Brenden Burns serves in the Navy, was among the Blue Star mothers who attended the event.
“Today is all about our freedom and remembering these young men and women who are protecting our future freedom,” Tehee told the audience.
Nick Slater and the Tulare Dust Band performed live on stage, adding to the festive atmosphere. Before his performance, Slater spent time with a piglet named Belle.
Throughout the day, many members of the community enjoyed entertainment at the rodeo before the evening fireworks display.
