A man in Wyoming is accused of suddenly drawing a gun on two women and telling them he was going to play Russian roulette.
Jonathan Douglas Potter, 38, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and battery for threatening to use a drawn deadly weapon, according to local radio station KGAB. He faces up to ten years in prison for the alleged crime.
The incident began early Tuesday morning when Potter arrived at a woman’s Cheyenne home with another woman to deliver medication.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by Cowboy State Daily, the pair entered the home and Potter used the bathroom.
“When he came out, he made a comment that he had to get’strapped,'” according to the document. The defendant then pulled out a Bersa.380-caliber pistol and “pointed it at them.”
According to the affidavit, the suspect then “told them he was going to play Russian roulette with the handgun,” removing the magazine, inserting his finger into the trigger guard, and swinging the gun around.
The alleged action did not appear to amuse the women, as both allegedly told Laramie County deputies they “feared for their lives.”
The woman who lived in the house told authorities that she had asked Potter to leave several times, and the woman who arrived with Potter is said to have fled and hid in the bathroom.
The arresting deputy stated that the incident involved alcohol. When law enforcement arrived, Potter, who was standing outside the home, allegedly said he had no idea what was going on, claiming he had gone there to “hang out” and stepped outside to smoke a cigarette only to find himself handcuffed, according to the report.
According to police, the suspect eventually admitted to pulling out the gun but denied pointing it at the women. Nonetheless, the affidavit states that “Jonathan stated that the way he went about the situation with the two females was wrong.”
Potter is currently being detained at the Laramie County Detention Center.
