If you’re in Virginia Beach or the Hampton Roads area, expect a few rough days ahead as showers and thunderstorms could affect your travel and outdoor plans. The weather will remain unpredictable on Monday, but conditions should improve by midweek, just in time for better weather to enjoy the Juneteenth holiday.
Rainy Conditions on Monday
The National Weather Service in Wakefield reports that there is a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms across the region on Monday. The highest chance of rain will be in the morning, before 2 p.m., followed by another round of storms after 5 p.m.
Although rainfall amounts are expected to stay below a tenth of an inch, some thunderstorms could bring higher totals. Drivers along routes like I-264 and the Virginia Beach Expressway should be prepared for sudden downpours that can make the roads slick and dangerous during the morning and evening commutes.
Sunday and Monday: Wet and Cloudy
The unsettled weather will begin on Sunday, with a 70% chance of rain throughout the day. Expect mostly cloudy skies and a low temperature of around 71°F, which will keep things feeling cooler than usual. On Monday, the high temperature will again reach about 79°F, and the low will dip to around 72°F. Be ready for more showers as the day goes on, making outdoor plans challenging for most people.
Tuesday: A Slight Improvement
Although the wet weather will persist into Tuesday, it will start to move out by the evening. Expect a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m. The high for the day will be around 84°F, with a low of 74°F. So while it’s still going to be damp at times, the rain won’t be as heavy as earlier in the week.
Looking Forward to Juneteenth
By Wednesday, the weather will improve significantly. Expect a mostly sunny day with a high of 91°F and a low around 77°F. This nice weather will continue into Thursday, with partly cloudy skies and a high near 92°F—perfect for outdoor celebrations and activities. Friday will also bring pleasant weather, with a mix of sun and clouds and a high around 90°F.
