UPDATE A barn fire has claimed livestock in rural Allen County. Tuesday afternoon

Spencerville, Ohio – Firefighters responded to a three-alarm barn fire in rural Allen County Tuesday afternoon.

Just after 1 p.m., the Spencerville Fire Department responded to the fire on North Kill Road’s 1700 block. A half-dozen fire departments from Allen and Van Wert counties were called in to assist with the extinguishment of the fire. In addition to the barn, the fire spread to a nearby field, burning two to three acres. Strong winds hampered firefighters’ efforts to control the fire.

“The crews arrived to find a fully engulfed barn fire with approximately 15 to 20 cattle inside. Cattle didn’t make it out. Aside from that, no firefighters or homeowners were injured, according to Spencerville Fire Department Chief Doug Lowry.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
