Inwood, Iowa — A two-vehicle crash near Inwood on Thursday killed one person and injured four others.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reported on July 31 that at around 10:35 a.m., they received multiple 911 calls reporting a crash in the 2200 block of Iowa Highway 182, north of Inwood.
According to officials, an initial investigation shows a black 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe driving north behind a white 2024 Chevrolet Blazer.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the Blazer was slowing down to turn onto a driveway when the Tahoe collided with the Blazer’s rear. According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, both vehicles came to a stop in the eastern ditch.
Authorities said the Blazer’s driver, Stanley Kroese, 90, of Sioux Center, died from his injuries. Joan Kroese, 84, of Sioux Center, was the other passenger in the SUV and was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital.
According to state troopers, the Tahoe’s driver, Jennifer Simpson, 39, and two children, ages seven and nine, from Rock Valley, were injured. All three individuals were transported to different Sioux Falls hospitals, two by ambulance and one by air ambulance.
According to law enforcement, the crash is still under investigation.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in responding to the crash by Iowa State Patrol Troopers, Inwood Fire & Rescue, Larchwood Fire Department, and Sanford Canton-Inwood Ambulance.
