According to a Vermilion Police Department release dated August 2, an investigation into the shootings that occurred on July 23 between 3:23 a.m. and 5:33 a.m. resulted in the identification of a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old suspect.

During a raid on Aug. 1, the Vermilion Police Department discovered two weapons allegedly linked to four shooting incidents.

One of the shootings involved shooting an occupied home several times with a rifle. The shooting left no one injured.

Police executed two search warrants at the suspects’ homes on Friday, one in Lorain and the other in Sheffield Lake.

Police said two firearms, a 20-gauge shotgun and a 5.56 mm rifle, were discovered on the Sheffield Lake property.

“These appear to be the firearms used in the incident. They will be sent to the BCI laboratory for ballistic testing and confirmation, according to the release.

Police said that if ballistics tests confirm that these weapons were used in the shootings, the suspects will be charged and their identities released.

“There has been no indication that any areas or homes were specifically targeted during the shootings. “It appears that these locations were chosen at random,” the release stated.
