Trump receives laughs from international leaders shortly into his UN speech

President Donald Trump elicited laughter from world leaders moments after taking the stage at the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday.

Trump joked about a broken escalator in the UN building, as well as broken teleprompters in front of him.

“Thank you very much, I really appreciate it,” he said to the applause as he took the stage.

“And I don’t mind giving this speech without a teleprompter because the teleprompter isn’t working,” he said, to which the leaders laughed.

“I’m very happy to be up here with you, and you speak more from the heart. “I can only say that whoever is operating this teleprompter is in big trouble,” he added, eliciting additional laughter.

Trump later drew laughs when he mentioned his dissatisfaction with the UN’s involvement in global conflicts.

“I ended seven wars, dealt with the leaders of these countries and never even received a phone call from the United Nations offering to help in finalizing the deal,” said Donald Trump. “All I got from the United Nations was an escalator that on the way up stopped right in the middle.”

“If the first lady wasn’t in good shape, she would have fallen. But she’s in great shape, and we are both in good shape. “We both stood,” he added, eliciting additional laughter.

“These are the two things I got from the United Nations: a bad escalator and a bad teleprompter,” he stated.

Throughout his speech, Trump praised peace efforts and warned European nations not to continue to tolerate illegal immigration. Trump also called the global climate change agenda a “con job.”
