Tragic Loss' 18-year-old college football player Corey Adams dies after being shot and killed in Tennessee

A college football player was fatally shot in Tennessee.

Deputies discovered Corey Adams, 18, in a vehicle following a shooting at around 10:14 p.m. local time on Saturday, July 19, near a residential area in Cordova, according to a statement from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO).

Deputies administered “life-saving measures” to Adams on the scene, but the athlete, who played defensive end for the University of Mississippi’s Ole Miss Rebels, was later pronounced dead by the Shelby County Fire Department (SCFD).

“Upon arrival at Fern Glade Cove, deputies found multiple shell casings and learned that four adult males arrived by personal vehicles to area hospitals with gunshot wounds,” according to officials.

The other four shooting victims are not in critical condition. The shooting remains under investigation as a homicide.

Ole Miss Football said in a statement on X that Adams’ death has left the organization “devastated”.

“While our program is trying to cope with this tragic loss, our thoughts are with [Adams’] loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” according to a statement. “We will not make any further comments at this time due to respect for his family. We ask that the Ole Miss community keep Corey in their thoughts and respect everyone’s privacy.

Adams, a native of New Orleans, previously played football at Edna Karr High School in Louisiana.

The school’s football Facebook page posted an emotional tribute to the late teen, saying they were “heartbroken and tormented to pieces.”

The tribute referred to Adams as “a friend, brother, son, student, and all-around great young man.”

“We never question God, but this is one we simply do not understand. “This wasn’t supposed to be the end of his story,” the post read.

Adams is listed on the Ole Miss Sports website as a college freshman majoring in freshman studies for the 2025 football season.

He is survived by his parents, Corey Adams and Chantrel Bernhart.
