COLUMBUS, Ohio — This summer, the city will host a festival centered on the classic Sandusky-based comedy “Tommy Boy”.
“Tommy Boy Fest” commemorates the film’s 30th anniversary from August 7 to August 9.
The film is set in Sandusky, home of the fictional Callahan Auto Parts, a brake pad manufacturer. In the film, Tom “Tommy Boy” Callahan III (Chris Farley) travels with Richard Hayden (David Spade) to try to save his late father’s company.
The festival begins on August 7 with Destination Sandusky’s weekly Party at the Pier event at Jackson Street Pier. The Menus, an Ohio rock band, will perform in an outdoor concert.
The next two days will feature a downtown movie and television-themed classic car show, outdoor screenings of “Tommy Boy,” a “Tommy Want Wingy Throwdown,” character look-alike contests, a “sights not seen in the movie” Sandusky scavenger hunt, and more.
The weekend also includes an appearance and Q&A session with Peter Segal, the film’s director. Segal’s restored 1967 Plymouth Belvedere II GTX convertible, which was featured in the film, will be available for photos. Additionally, attendees named Tom or Tommy are invited to participate in a photo opportunity.
The festival will take place on the same weekend as Small City Taphouse’s annual CLAG Brewing Festival. The beer festival will include live music, a street party, beer releases, and more. More information about the CLAG Brewing Festival can be found here.
Tommy Boy Fest is organized by the City of Sandusky, the Greater Sandusky Partnership, and Shores & Islands Ohio.
