Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz recently announced several major infrastructure projects for 2025 focused on improving roads, water systems, and neighborhood connectivity.
Residential Road Reconstruction
The 2025 residential road construction season kicked off on 113th Street in north Toledo, marking one of the most extensive residential road projects planned for the year. This project includes:
- Full road reconstruction including replacing 1,720 feet of water main with new hydrants, valves, and service lines.
- Sanitary sewer system installation to replace aged infrastructure.
- Pedestrian improvements such as new or upgraded curb ramps, new sidewalks where they don’t exist, and replacement of curbs and drive aprons.
This is part of a $25 million citywide effort involving over 42 lane miles of residential streets, 16 lane miles of major roads resurfaced, and 30 lane miles receiving patch and seal treatments.
Safety and Connectivity Enhancements
As part of Toledo’s Vision Zero commitment, new midblock pedestrian crossings—mainly near parks—will be installed to improve pedestrian safety and reduce jaywalking. These crossings offer safer and more visible street crossing points, enhancing overall neighborhood walkability and traffic flow.
Environmental Infrastructure Project
Toledo entered a partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for a $13 million Environmental Infrastructure Project. This project includes construction of a 1-billion-gallon reservoir and replacement of raw water main lines supplying water from Lake Erie to the Collins Park Water Treatment Plant. It is designed to secure safe, reliable drinking water for nearly half a million residents and is planned for construction completion in 2029.
Additional Plans
Mayor Kapszukiewicz also announced various vibrancy initiatives with nearly $1 million secured for projects to improve neighborhoods’ vitality and appearance as part of 24 announced projects funded by the City Council.
Overall, these infrastructure projects emphasize road quality, water system sustainability, improved pedestrian safety, and neighborhood enhancements, positioning Toledo for long-term growth and resilience in 2025 and beyond.
