An Indiana guy is in jail and discussing what led to his arrest following a fatal stabbing this week, according to Hoosier State authorities.
Draylon Marquise Crutchfield, 25, is accused of one count of murder, according to Allen County Sheriff’s Department records.
A press release reporting the defendant’s arrest stated that the incident occurred late Thursday night at an apartment complex on Stardale Drive in Fort Wayne’s Oakland Park neighborhood.
According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, when officers arrived at the scene, Muhammad Williams, 18, was found with several stab wounds. The stabbed victim was taken to a neighboring hospital in “life-threatening condition” and later died from his injuries. According to authorities, the defendant was swiftly identified as a person of interest and then apprehended at the crime site.
The suspected killer apparently spoke freely about the altercation.
“Don’t be going to sleep on my mama’s couch,” Williams urged the defendant shortly after 9 p.m., Crutchfield allegedly told police, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by Fort Wayne ABC, NBC, and MyNetworkTV affiliate WPTA and CBS affiliate WANE.
According to police, this charge-and-demand sparked a brief but ultimately violent argument between the two guys.
Crutchfield, for his part, allegedly stated that he declined to reply to the initial demand, but Williams continued the verbal insults.
During the dispute, Williams held a newborn in his hands, which he eventually passed on to another individual as the incident progressed, according to Crutchfield and other witnesses.
The defendant allegedly told police that a third individual in the flat went outside to make a phone call. Then, Williams’ statements are believed to have turned more hostile.
According to the affidavit, Williams allegedly told Crutchfield, “I’m going to beat the s**t out of you.” “I’ve been waiting on this s-.”
At this moment, Crutchfield allegedly stated that he was already holding a knife and warned: “Don’t run up on me bro, don’t run up on me man.”
However, the defendant claimed that Williams refused to listen.
According to the affidavit, Crutchfield said that Williams repeatedly hit him in the head before admitting to stabbing the deceased guy “unknown number of times.” The defendant also allegedly stated that being struck in the head had caused his vision to fade, resulting in his imperfect knowledge of the stabbing.
According to the affidavit, after the stabbing, Williams rushed outside, followed by Crutchfield, knife still in hand. The defendant allegedly stated his case at a neighbor’s apartment.
According to law authorities, Crutchfield was drenched in blood and armed with a kitchen knife in his right hand. He informed the neighbors that he stabbed Williams after being punched in the face.
According to the affidavit, another witness claimed to have watched the entire occurrence and stated that “the fight did not last more than three seconds before Draylon stabbed Muhammad.”
According to Fox affiliate WFFT in Fort Wayne, the two guys were later identified as housemates.
Crutchfield is being held in the Allen County Confinement Facility without bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 28.
