Hawaii doesn’t observe Daylight Saving Time mainly because it is located near the equator, where daylight hours remain fairly constant year-round. There is little variation in sunrise and sunset times, so changing the clock twice a year has minimal practical benefit.
Similarly, Colorado’s decision to forgo Daylight Saving Time is influenced by the desire to avoid the inconvenience and health disruptions caused by changing clocks. Residents and lawmakers see the time change as outdated, disrupting circadian rhythms without providing significant energy savings or lifestyle improvements.
In fact, Colorado joined a growing number of states passing legislation to adopt permanent standard time, effectively avoiding the biannual switches. Along with Hawaii, Colorado is part of a small group of states officially on permanent standard time, unlike most of the U.S. which continues to observe Daylight Saving Time in the summer months.
