The National Guard is mobilized in South Dakota by Rhoden

Sioux Falls, South Dakota – Governor Larry Rhoden is mobilizing South Dakota National Guardsmen at Donald Trump’s request.

According to a press release, Rhoden is deploying 12 guardsmen from the 129th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment in Rapid City.

“South Dakota stands in solidarity with President Trump,” Rhoden stated in a press release.

According to the press release, the mobilization is being led by the D.C. National Guard, and army guardsmen will be activated under Title 32.

Title 32 states that the guardsmen are under state authority but funded by the federal government.

Their initial deployment is scheduled to last 30 days, but according to Section 904 of Title 32, “The Governor of the State may, with the concurrence of the Secretary of Defense, extend the period one time for an additional 90 days to meet extraordinary circumstances.”
