The Lima Council discusses a proposal to deal with the city's cut-through traffic and speeding

LIMA, Ohio — Lima City Council addressed speeding issues on residential streets throughout the city.

City engineers gave Lima council members the opportunity to provide feedback on the Neighborhood Traffic Management Program. According to data from a public workshop and a survey, Nixon Avenue, Cable Road, Lakewood Avenue, and Cole Street received the most public responses regarding speeding and cut-through traffic.

Lima Council discussed ways to address speeding and cut-through traffic in the city, including street reconstruction, enforcement, and education. Speeding and cut-through traffic are among the most common complaints council members receive from residents, which is why involving the community in the process is critical.

“We want to ensure that citizens participate because we know that these are the neighborhoods that will be affected if we implement traffic calming measures in the area.” However, when we have citizen participation, we know that the citizens are engaged, and we have reviewed all of the target areas and heard all of the concerns. We’ve also informed them about potential strategies and identified what those strategies might look like in their neighborhoods,” says Jamie Dixon, President of Lima City Council.

There will be another workshop to gather additional resident feedback. The date has not been set, but officials hope to hold it sometime next month. The goal is to have a final traffic plan ready to present to the council by the end of the year.
